• Issuing public weather forecasts and warnings through all available media.
• Issuing forecasts (including warnings) for different sectors of the economy, e.g.: transportation, agriculture, water management, energy economy, environment, etc.
• Supervising meteorological services for civil aviation and supplying basic weather flight information.
• Establishing, operating and maintaining a nationwide network of meteorological stations - synoptic, climatic, agro-meteorological, and solar radiation stations.
• Securing the quality and accuracy of meteorological observations to ensure reliable and accurate climate data, in compliance with International Meteorological Standards.
• Establishing, operating and maintaining a national data bank of basic meteorological and climatic data.
• Pursuing relevant applied meteorological research in order to advance and develop a better scientific understanding of weather and climate in Israel, in order to improve our services to the national economy and to the general public.
• Responsibility for Israel's international activity in the field of meteorology, as part of our membership in the World Meteorological Organization.
• Operating a Post-Graduate Meteorological Training Center (MTC) in Applied Meteorology in cooperation with the Center for International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the WMO.
• Providing raw and processed meteorological data for different consumers in Israel and abroad
